For the last several years, I’ve been doing a lot of researching, looking, reading, and peering behind the scenes to learn all I can about online marketing.

Yes, there is a seamy underbelly to this business, but that’s not unusual - there are always people who want to take shortcuts, be less than honorable, and take your money however they can. If you look for them, you won’t have any trouble finding them. Look for over-hyped claims, outrageous promises, and no contact information.

On the other hand, I have had the immense pleasure of meeting hundreds of very helpful and friendly people. Yes, they want to sell you something, but, no, they do not want to take advantage of you. These are the people who make this businesss a pleasure.

When I started online marketing, I was selling my handcrafted steel roses. Now, I’m affiliated with dozens of companies that sell many thousands of products.

At last count, I have 833 accounts on the Internet.

Now that I feel like I’ve paid my dues to learn what I have, I want to pass along some of what I’ve learned, here, on John Dilbeck Recommends.

I will do my best not to recommend anything that I wouldn’t use myself, and if I slip up, or if you disagree with me, feel free to comment. As long as your comment is civil, language-appropriate, and on-topic, you are welcome to voice your opinion. Off-topic, spam, and other comments from people who don’t know how to play nice in the sandbox will be deleted without a second thought. If you can’t play nice, go home and play in your own sandbox.

My attention has turned to three main topics: promoting local businesses in Murphy, NC; affiliate marketing; and network marketing, also known as multilevel marketing.

This blog and other associatd pages will be devoted to those topics. I’ll recommend businesses, products, services, and resources that I have found to be helpful. I may caution you about some things that have not been productive for me, but that doesn’t mean they don’t work for others and you may find them very useful. What works for me may not work for you, and vice versa. That’s one of the things that makes advertising, marketing, and sales so interesting. They can be complex puzzles that take years to solve, but they come with cash payouts when you win the game.

As this blog gains traction, I’ll probably put some of my other blogs and sites in mothballs. I’ve experimented with lots of blogs and sites related to a variety of topics so I could learn what works for me and what I enjoy doing.

This blog is a result of that experimentation.

Over the last two years, I’ve registered dozens of domains and built dozens of sites. Now that I know what I want to do when I grow up, I’m coming back home to JohnDilbeck.com and I’ll continue developing it.

My primary general purpose blog will be located at JohnDilbeckAndFriends.com.

John Dilbeck Recommends is now my primary business blog and will be updated regularly.

Yes, it will contain affiliate links in most of the articles. That’s how I earn my living. I appreciate all of you who purchase from my links.

If you don’t want me to earn something by recommending a useful product or service to you, then there are many other sandboxes in which you can play.
