William L. Godfrey

William L. Godfrey (2) (1829-1865) Civil War Veteran, born December 1829 in South Carolina, was in Forsyth Co, Georgia in 1850 Census, died May, 1865 in Civil War. Married July 13, 1851 Caroline Bennett, born September 20, 1837 in Forsyth Co., Georgia, died April 30, 1926 in Dawson Co, Georgia.

They had 5 children:

1 - Jasper Jefferson Godfreyborn August 30, 1852, Coal Mountain District, Forsyth Co, Georgia, died August 11, 1932 in Dawson County, Georgia, buried Bethel Methodist Cemetary, Dawson Co., Georgia, married December 10, 1874 to Emmaline Elizabeth (Ema) Singleton, born January 20, 1854, died January 9, 1940, buried Bethel Cemetary (her father was John Calvin Singleton and her mother was Louise E. Craven) They had 7 children: 1-"Bertha" Resita Godfrey; 2-Tomie Louvada (Toe-mee) Godfrey; 3-Pearl "Annie" Godfrey; 4-Louella Susan (Eller) Godfrey; 5-William (Billy) Allen Godfrey; 6-"Gussie" Grady Godfrey; 7-John Richard "Belk" Godfrey

4-Elizabeth Jane (Janie) Godfreyborn April 28, 1859 in Forsyth Co., Georgia, died April 13, 1892, buried Cross Roads Baptist Church, Forsyth County, Georgia, married James Oliver (Ollie) Findley, Pickens County, Georgia.
5-Elbert Cisney Godfrey(already described)

William L. Godfrey's father was James S. Godfrey (3) (1807 - about 1880) and his mother was "Elizabeth R. McCoy" (3) (1815 - ?). Elizabeth McCoy's father was John McCoy (4) (1764 - 1836) and her mother was Charity Bennett (4) (1783 - 1820). John was a Revolutionary War Veteran. He was a native of Fairfield County, SC. He owned land in Newberry and Laurens Counties, and probably Fairfield County. Both John and Charity are buried in Laurens County, SC.

Charity Bennett's father was Micajah Bennett (5) (? - 1798) and he died in Newberry County, SC. Her mother is unknown at this time.
