James S. Godfrey (3) (1807-after 1880), born July 10, 1807, Laurens Co., South Carolina, died after 1880 Census Dawson Co., Georgia, married 1st, Elizabeth McCoy (3) (1815 - ?), died before January 13, 1859, (was in her father's will 1838).
They had 4 children:
| 1 - John T. Godfrey | born 1826 in South Carolina, died in Texas. |
| 2 - William L. Godfrey | born December 1829 in South Carolina, was listed in Forsyth County, Georgia on 1850 Census), died May, 1865, in Virginia in the Civil War. |
| 3 - Elizabeth | born 1830 in South Carolina, died single person in Forsyth County, Georgia; |
| 4 - Mary Ann Josephine | born January 8, 1836 in South Carolina, died September 10, 1836. |
(The Phillips Methodist Cemetary List of Laurens County, South Carolina has "Mary Ann Josephine, daughter of James S. and Elizabeth F. Godfrey, January 8, 1836, died September 10, 1836.")
James S. Godfrey's father was John Godfrey, Sr. (4) (1766 - ?), born in South Carolina, and his mother was Sara Sullivan (4) (1777 - 1843), born in Virginia.
John Godfrey, Sr.'s father was Ansel Godfrey (5) (? - ?) and his mother was Elisabeth ? (5) (? - ?).
Elizabeth McCoy's father was John McCoy (4) (1764 - 1836) and her mother was Charity Bennett (4) (1783 - 1820). John was a Revolutionary War Veteran. He was a native of Fairfield County, SC. He owned land in Newberry and Laurens Counties, and probably Fairfield County. Both John and Charity are buried in Laurens County, SC.
Charity Bennett's father was Micajah Bennett (5) (? - 1798) and he died in Newberry County, SC. Her mother is unknown at this time.
James S. Godfrey married 2nd, Elizabeth Culbertson in Laurens Co., South Carolina, born January 13, 1859. They had no children)
