Arts and Crafts Shows, and Getting There and BackHere are a number of links you might find handy for finding arts and crafts shows, and information and products to make your travel easier and less expensive. Finding Arts and Crafts ShowsNationwide listingsFor some time, Sunshine Artist magazine has listed upcoming arts and crafts shows for a one-time listing fee of $20.00 for an event. This was a good way for promoters to notify potential exhibitors. Now, and I don't know how long this has been true, when you list an event in Sunshine Artist magazine, the same listing is added to a database that is fully searchable on the Internet at artsandcraftshows.net. So, for that same $20.00 listing fee, you can potentially reach thousands of folks who might like to attend your show. If you're an exhibitor in a show and it isn't listed here, you might want to inform the promoter and ask that the event be listed. For an additional fee of $50.00, the listing will include a link to the show's web site. One of the nice features of the searchable database is the search for shows that will take place next week, and you can pick which state you are interested in, which would be a great way to plan a day or weekend outing. You can also do a search for a specific time period and narrow it down to city, state or region. I just did a search for October 1, 2000 through October 15, 2000 for all shows in North Carolina and neither of the shows I plan to attend are listed. I think that should be rectified next year. So, how does this help you as an artist or a crafter? On your publicity and marketing documents, be sure to list the http://artandcraftshows.net URL so your customers and other artists and crafters become used to searching there. Be sure the promoter lists the show with Sunshine Artist, and check the database yourself. Over time, with effort from each of us, this could become the single best place to both advertise and find shows. Arts and Crafts shows in the western North Carolina areaI'm maintaining a calendar of heritage events in and around Murphy, NC, and that calendar is also included in my Cherokee County, North Carolina calendar. You can search this public database of calendars at their home page: www.localendar.com. If you maintain a calendar for an organization or want one for yourself, you can create and maintain it at http://www.localendar.com. You can have both private events that nobody but you can see, or you can publish events and specify the zip code so others can find them. The more we use this service, the more useful it will be for all of us.
