For the last couple of months, I've been re-evaluating my metalsmithing business. It has been a grand experiment and I've found something that is truly personally satisfying. I'm not going to close the business, but it is going to have to go on the back burner. I haven't been able to make a living at this, and, since I've had enough time to get over my computer burnout, I'm going to re-open my Dilbeck Consulting business the first of 2002.

I still welcome orders for The Rose That Never Wilts, and I'll create and ship them as quickly as I can. It will not, however, be my first priority for the foreseeable future.
Over the last couple of years, I've continued to follow developments in the Macintosh world and in client/server and open source software development and deployment in the Unix world. With release 10.1 of Mac OS X, I see a platform that I can fully support for local area networking, Intranets, Internet web services, and more.
So, I'll be working to come back to speed on data base and small business Intranet development. I'm excited to be moving back into an area I have loved working in for many years, and with several years of rest and exploring other areas, I'm ready to see what I can offer.
I'll be making further announcements as things start to gel.
I am not going to be abandoning Arts and Crafts, because I find metalsmithing to be a wonderful hobby. So, I'll continue to develop JohnDilbeck.com as I have time and energy. As always, I welcome your feedback, comments, and suggestions.
I'll be opening a new section for Dilbeck Consulting here in a few days and it will be developed at a higher priority. Don't look for anything concerning Microsoft Windows. There are plenty of others who prefer that platform and I'm happy to leave it to them.
There will be some changes that I'll be announcing, but I'll wait until I know better what they'll be.
One thing is for certain. I'll never go back to working 100+ hour weeks. That's over. I'm going to find a way to work hard on software development and integration and do it in less hours. Then I'm going to take time off to rest, visit friends and family, and smite metal. I've never been able to do that before, but I'm going to try it this time around. ** JD **
