I'm a sore puppy, today. (03/15/2001 07:55 EST) It's been nearly three months since I've done any metalsmithing, until a couple of days ago. For the last two days, I've been grinding paint off of car body parts, tracing patterns on the newly bare steel, and cutting out the parts to make several steel roses. Today, I'm so sore I can barely move my right hand, but that's just a part of the toughening up process.
One of these days, I'll trade in the hand-powered aircraft shears for a shiny new Beverley Shear and this part of the job will get much easier and faster.
In a few days, I'll be cutting and shaping steel without a second thought. But, for today, it's a pretty good thing that I have several meetings I need to attend. Tomorrow, I start texturing petals and leaves and I should make my first rose of the year on Saturday.
Despite being so sore, I'm enjoying working steel again. It's been great to get away from the computer and working on web sites and doing real work for a change.
Oh, yeah, look at the calendar. Beware the Ides of March!
