A closer look at Manila and Radio UserLand. BEYOND FRONTIER: A closer look at Manila and Radio UserLand, By Russ Lipton

From the article: In my article, "How UserLand's Frontier can revolutionize content management," elsewhere in this issue of DominoPower, I touched on two other exciting applications from UserLand: Manila and UserLand Radio. In this article, we'll take a more in-depth look at both of them.    4:21:05 PM

Content Management: UserLand's Frontier. How UserLand's Frontier can revolutionize content management By Russ Lipton

From the article: "Frontier's author, Dave Winer, single-handedly defined the category of outliners in the 1980s with ThinkTank and MORE. More recently, he has co-authored key Web protocols such as XML-RPC (Extended Markup Language/Remote Procedure Call) and SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol). IBM and Lotus have both made a strong commitment to SOAP while it also forms the foundation for Microsoft's .NET vision. Pure and simple, in my humble opinion, Dave Winer is right up there with luminaries like Tim Berners-Lee in making the Internet usable for mere mortals."

It has it's share of alphabet soup, but it's a good article and well worth reading, even if you're not a Domino or Notes user or developer.   4:16:25 PM

Newbie Club Tip: Controlling desktop icons. How to keep your desktop icons from jumping back back to attention every time you move them:

By default, Microsoft made the Auto Arrange option the default. If you want free-flowing icons, you'll need to turn this option off. Right-click the desktop and select Arrange Icons. In the resulting menu, you'll see a check mark next to Auto Arrange. Select this option (or deselect it). Back on the desktop, try to relocate an icon. It should work much better.

Newbie Club Tip: view properties. How to view the properties for multiple hard drives all at once:

Open My Computer and select all your hard drives by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking on each drive. Next, right-click on any one of the drives and choose Properties from the Context menu that appears; Windows will create a single dialog with tabs for each drive. It also works for floppy, removable and mapped network drives. So you can knock off a lot with a little effort and be done with it!
